1. The cost of living is finally under control
If you’re moving to the Las Vegas area (or anywhere in Nevada or Southern Utah) from California, get ready for a price shock – but in the right direction for once. In fact, the cost of consumer goods and services in the Las Vegas area is about 25% lower than San Francisco and 12% lower than Sacramento, with your income going much further. But if you want even more good news about the cost of living in Las Vegas, read on!
2. Housing prices you can live with
This is where you’ll see a profound difference between costs in California and Las Vegas. Rents are almost 20% lower than in Sacramento and far more than in San Francisco and other major cities. And if you’re looking to buy, your money will go 3-4 times further than in San Francisco and are probably 30-40% less for the same house than in Sacramento! It’s a great time to buy a home in Las Vegas!
3. Taxes are no longer a bad word
The news gets even better when we start looking at the tax situation for state residents, as it sure will sting far less than the ridiculous taxes we pay (and get very little in return) in California.) That’s because Nevada residents pay no state income tax and their property taxes are some of the lowest in the country, so you’ll keep in a far greater portion of everything you earn – as it should be!
4. Nevada is a business owner’s dream
That tax amnesty extends to businesses, with no franchise tax, inventory or corporate tax in the state. Las Vegas, local municipalities, and Nevada and a whole eagerly welcomes people to open businesses and move their existing firms to Las Vegas, and the ease of opening from paperwork to permits is surprisingly smooth. Once you do business in Las Vegas, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do so earlier!
5. Sunny weather and temperate winters
You may think that weather in Las Vegas is just hot and hotter, but it’s actually a very enjoyable climate to live in (as long as you have a swimming pool in the summer!), with noticeable seasons. There is sunshine about 310 days of the year and little rain in the Mojave Desert climate. You definitely won’t have to worry about humidity, rainy winters, or terrible allergies in Las Vegas!
6. Are you a sports fan?
If you’re a Raiders fan, you can move from California and not miss a beat, as the Black & Silver is now playing in Las Vegas! We are also home to the NHL’s Golden Knights, and if you’re never seen it, live pro hockey is awesome! If you’re a baseball fan, you won’t feel left out with the minor league Golden Knights playing right in Summerlin. Las Vegas also gets all of the biggest UFC fights, boxing matches, rodeos, wrestling, and just about every sporting event you can imagine!
7. Golf, the outdoors, and a healthy lifestyle
If you’re a big golfer, you’ll fall in love with Las Vegas and never want to leave, with dozens of world-class courses that can be played all year round. And hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, boating, running, playing recreational sports, or just hanging out in a scenic, spotless park with the family, Las Vegas won’t disappoint!
8. Restaurants, nightlife, entertainment
Las Vegas may be a relatively small city, but our restaurants are world-class, with some of the best chefs and epicurean brands in the U.S. So, whether you want Japanese sushi, a New York steak, home-cooked Italian, or American fusion, you can find it all in Las Vegas – at great prices and nearly 24 hours per day! You’ll never eat as good in your life without breaking the budget as in Las Vegas. And we haven’t even mentioned nightlife, shows, concerts, and everything that makes Las Vegas the Entertainment Capital of the World!
9. Communities and community
When we say “Las Vegas,” we’re actually talking about the greater Las Vegas Valley, which includes downtown Las Vegas but also other wonderful communities such as Summerlin, Paradise, Henderson, Las Vegas North, Green Valley, and more. Summerlin, especially, is a haven for people moving from California who want a clean, safe, nearly-new neighborhood with plenty of amenities and public spaces – and all for a reasonable cost. But you’ll most enjoy the friendliness and sense of community among residents when you move to Summerlin or Las Vegas!
10. Get away from the BS in California!
If you’re sick and tired of paying some of the highest taxes in the US, struggling to keep a business alive just because of the taxes and costs, and seeing very little back in return when you look at the streets, parks, and infrastructure around you, welcome to the club. And don’t even get me started on our local politicians and the hypocrisy of our governance! In fact, about 600,000 thousand Californians move out of the state every year for greener pastures, and Las Vegas is a prime destination for hundreds of thousands of Californians to come over the next few years!
